Valentine's Day Free Read

Hi! My name is Kara Lynn Russell and I've written a series of lighthearted contemporary romances set in the fictional small town of Orchard Hill, Wisconsin. The plot of the series centers around a contest between to matchmakers to see who can make the most matches in one year's time. Each story is a bout a couple that one of the matchmakers brings together. You can find out more about the series here.

You can also read my free Valentine's Day story "A Long, Silly Love Chase." It's sort of a mini-sequel to the first story in the series "Saving Gracie." Riley and Grace and Steve have been best friends since elementary school. When Steve leaves Gracie at the alter, Riley decides it's time to let his true feelings for Grace be known. Here's a bit from the beginning of "Saving Gracie."

A friend loves at all times…
—Poverbs17:17 NIV
Chapter 1
Riley O’Neil wondered how he got himself into these things. His plans for the day had not included sitting with Grace…who was crying…in the ladies room…at church.
He sighed with frustration and glanced around, noting the flower-covered wall paper, the ruffled, lacey curtains and the bowl of potpourri on the sink. He could feel the testosterone draining from his body with each passing minute.
He put a comforting arm around his friend. “Come on Gracie. You have to stop now. You’ll make yourself sick.” Everyone else called her Grace, but she was always Gracie to him.
As a boy, Riley remembered being curious about what the ladies room looked like. This was definitely one secret he wished hadn’t been revealed to him. His grandmother used this room!
No, Riley did not want to be here. He would very much like to be with his best friend Steve, so he could punch him in the nose. But Steve was on a plane going to Hawaii with Tami, who had betrayed Gracie and stolen her fiancĂ©.
Steve—Riley’s so-called friend—had called him on his cell phone even as the guests were filing into the church. “Sorry, Riley. I just can’t go through with it. Cold feet I guess. Grace is going to be mad, so I’m using the honeymoon tickets and going to Hawaii until this blows over.”
He felt his jaw drop. “You’re doing what?”

Of course, Riley will win Gracie's heart in the end. But then Steve returns and it seems like he's aiming to cut Riley out and win Gracie back. Find out if Steve succeeds in "A Long Silly Love Chase."

I had to click on the link and read the free read first - I'm always impatient - and can't wait to read Saving Gracie! I was hooked after the first paragraph.

Love the excerpt! Poor Riley, stuck in such a girly room with his devastated friend. So glad to know he wins her heart in the end!

Thanks for the excerpt. Sounds very good, a must read for me.

Light-hearted stories sound welcome in the days of doom and gloom. And a series always gives us a chance to follow the characters from the other books. Sometimes it's hard to say goodbye to ones we really like.

Revisiting familiar characters is one of my favorite things about series, too. I loved having them pop in and out of all the stories. Thanks everyone for commenting.
