Calling All Angels ~ Deena Remiel

The principal behind The Brethren Novel Series is that there are Angels, Immortals, among us. They are here to protect us against Evil, fight against it, and save us from it. While doing research for this series I came across many sites dedicated to the idea of Guardian Angels. Story upon story speak to incidents where a person is convinced an angel has helped them or someone they know. In the Brethren Novel Series, my Angels only intervene when a person has cried out in desperation or love for help.
My personal experience with angels is how I feel the presence of my father, who has passed on. I recognize flags he's laid out so I can be attuned with choices set before me. So many times I have seen his name in clusters and then something big happens. I figure he's my Guardian Angel. So now I ask you, what kinds of experiences have you had with angels?

I can't think of any personal experiences with angels, but I have friends who swear they have been helped by them. I know I believe in them...thanks for sharing. (ggunselman@gmail.com)

I'm not sure it really qualifies as an experience but I always feel like my grandpa is watching over me. Every time something funny happens I think of him and feel like he's with me. He was such a practical joker. I'll never forget the time he put a frog in my bathroom toilet to scare me to death.

Greta, thanks for stopping by! I'm always amazed when friends tell me of experiences they've had. Makes me think... I do believe.

Miranda, great story! Isn't it such a warm feeling to know our loved ones' souls who have passed still linger for us when we need them? :)

I'm lucky enough not to have encountered a supernatural messenger of God, to the best of my knowledge. And DON'WANNA!

Well, my dog who died in 2007 still sometimes barks to be let in the house or out of the bedroom. The whole family hears him, though we don't always hear him simultaneously. He's one of my angels.

amaebi, before my father passed away, I was absolutely terrified of "the beyond". Now, I guess because he has passed, it's become more comforting. Weird!

I have not had an encounter with an angel but have heard of people that have

Doxymom, that's an awesome story. Does he alert you or your family to anything?

Deena said...

Virginia, I wonder, how do you think you'd feel if you witnessed an angelic type of situation?

I can't say I have ever had an experience, though sometimes I feel I have someone watching out for me, have had a couple of close calls that could have ended badly.

I'll just have to say that I believe and leave it at that.

Deena said...

Jean, close calls that turn out ok... yeah, something's at work there, right? Glad those incidents ended positively. :)

Vanessa A. Johnson said...

I'm a believer as well and don't care what anyone thinks of that. To each his own.

Deena said...

Maria, totally respect that. I understand that sometimes these events are personal and private.

doxymom said...

Deena, no it seems totally random.

It's really odd because it's so clear and often two or more of us will hear it at the same time. Or someone will jump up, go to the bedroom door and open it only to find our two doxies were sleeping in the room we were already in and no one was even in the other end of the house.

And we live far enough from other houses that we aren't hearing their dogs bark. After Shadow died it happened every few days, and as time has passed it happens less often. Oddly, when we got a new puppy 8 months after my Shadow passed, she would often growl into the empty kitchen in the direction of the food bowl. I'd look and there was no noise, nothing at all, and she was growling at my feet like she saw something at her level.

I took comfort in it that not only do people NOT simply stop existing when they die, but some animals don't either.

Course, my family (and friends) has a LOT of "ghost" stories involving other family members and pets.

Vanessa, fist bump,lady! :)

doxiemom,
Thanks for sharing. Now you have me wondering about the differences between guardian angels and ghosts. Hmmm.

Honestly, I see the belief in angels as something people do to fill a need in their lives-- they need to feel watched over, parented, guided. How easy it is to enjoy the idea that one's lost loves are still there, helping.
It's not a crime, but I think of it as a very socially accepted form of neurosis, and I can't understand how educated minds can cling to these untenable notions. You have the right to your faith, but how much better to have a clearer picture of the universe, and realize you don't need the guidance of a dead person to make decisions?
Best wishes, M.

I use to have this terrible nightmare for years that someone broke in my house and stabbed me to death. I know gruesome and it was so real. I got to the point I didn't want to sleep. I would stay awake until I just couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. Then one night while I was dreaming a woman in white appeared and held her hand out to me and I took it. All of a sudden I felt nothing but peace and comfort. Needless to say I have never had the nightmare again and have never seen her sense. Most will say it was just a dream but I don't think so. She brought me out of one of the worst times in my life. I don't feel that is coincidence. She was my guardian angel and like in your story she came to me when I couldn't take anymore.

heavey hedonist,

I respect your point of view greatly. When we place the responsibility of making decisions into someone or something else's hands we give up living. Not particularly the way I choose to live my life. It is interesting to note, however, the coincidences, close calls, and ironies.

Deena said...

Tabitha,
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I'm so glad you had that experience and that it transformed you rlife for the better. I have battled horrible issues with sleep when I was a child, and both of my kids have experienced either night terrors as a baby or, most recently, not feeling safe and waking every night. Wish I or my kids had been visited like you. :)

Tabitha Blake said...

Thank you Deena. My daughter also suffered from night terrors. The best the doctors could do was say she would grow out of it. It was so frustrating! But I have to say she is 11 now and did grow out of it. It was still really tough to see her go through that.

Deena said...

Let's continue this fascinating discussion. As I said prior, I believe in angels, ghosts, souls living on. I believe they are around to help us, not live for us. I'd love to hear more from you! :)

Deena said...

desithe blonde, thanks for sharing! Sounds like fun! Were you ever afraid?

Tabitha Blake said...

My father had an experience once that has stuck with him for years. He had a flat tire and couldn't get the lug nuts on the tire loose. He was one a road that had very little traffic and a man showed up and helped him. The weird thing was after the tire was changed and my dad looked up to say thank you he was gone. True story. I think we all have guardian angels even if we haven't met them yet.

Tabitha Blake said...

I also believe in spirits and not all of them are good. I lived in a haunted house a a teen and experienced terrifying things. I was held down, thrown down the stairs and my family experienced weird things. I could go on forever with all the things that happened in that house. I can tell the difference between the good and the bad spirits and let me tell you I don't mess around with that kind of stuff now. It scares the crap out of me. I know some will think I am crazy but those are the people that have never experienced anything unexplainable.

Deena said...

Tabitha, that's one fantastic story! That's what I'm talking about. :)

Deena said...

I agree, Tabitha. Some people are rooted in only what they observe and feel, and leave no room for other possibilities. Many people's philosophies are borne out of fear, so they are naturally closed off. I guess you could say, you could write a book about it. lol ;-)

Tabitha Blake said...

Yes every true. The funny thing is I am a paranormal writer. I am fascinated by things that can't be explained. My husband says that it is crazy. There are no such things as ghosts and such. But I lived it and told him that if he had experienced it he would believe too. I have always been open to this sort of thing. I have seen other spirits and not been afraid at all. So I seem to be able to tell the good from the bad. I get this creepy feeling and know I don't want to be in certain places. This is such an interesting discussion. It is really neat to hear others experiences.

Yes Deena, There have been numerous times when I've experiences the presence of loved ones, who are no longer on earth. They seem to send little signs, especially when I'm sad, or doubting myself.

Thanks so much for sharing your story!

Maria said...

I do believe in Angels and Guardian Angels but don't personally have any experiences with them:)

Deena said...

Tabitha, it all clicked for me when you said you wrote paranormal! I know of you, and am so excited to have finally realized why your name was niggling in my head. LOL I would imagine you do use some of these experiences in your writing. You wind up being part of your own research. lol

Deena said...

Kathleen, thanks for stopping by and sharing! <3

Deena said...

Maria, belief doesn't have to be substantiated with personal experience. That's what makes belief so powerful. :)

Tabitha Blake said...

Its a small world. How flattering thanks. The one thing that I think I have gotten from my experiences is writing the fear. I have lived true fear and I can really tap into that in my stories. I can close my eyes and remember the pure terror. I know sounds terrible but as writers we write what we know and the things we have experienced. Sometimes they are good experiences and sometimes they are bad. I pull from both and it really brings my writing to life. Okay I will leave it at that I know this isn't about writing. It tickled me that you recognized my name.

Deena said...

I'm so glad you shared today, Tabitha. It just goes to show that these kinds of experiences, good and bad, can lead to positive conclusions, ie. you using them as an author. I think sharing is so heplful and comforting to know we are not alone. As for my angels, The Brethren, I would take tehm hanging around ANY day of the week! lol So scrumptious... not a description we would usually use for angels, but hey, they're mine, so they're scrumptious. LOL

Tabitha Blake said...

Angels can be sexy too. The story I am working on now has some really sexy angels and a sexy demon in it. So I am all for sexy angels and demons. LOL!

Tabitha Blake said...

Thank you Deena. It looks like your discussion was a total success. It was a lot of fun.

My sister passed away last year and I always associate dragonfly's with her, since she liked them. I also asked her to show me 2 dragonfly's together as a sign. I saw so many dragonfly's last year. They were everywhere! We went swimming in her pool and 4 dragonfly's played with us. I asked my nephew if that had ever happened before and he said no. It was the first dragonfly he had seen at the pool. I organized a walk with Susan G. Komen for her and at the get together afterward, 2 dragonfly's flew around us all day. I like to think that it's her telling us that she's okay.

Recently I saw a movie that puts a different spin on Angels-- it's about the war in heaven coming down here, taking it to the people, so to speak. Paul bettany plays a very sexy and violent Michael. It's called Legion, available instant stream on Netflix just now. Good for a clearly small budget film, though it had a big name in it, Dennis Quaid. The angels get truly vicious in their bid to punish mankind. It wasn't prfect, but it had something-- a sympathy for God's servants, I guess. Very interestingly done.

Deena said...

Cindy, what a wonderful story to share! So heartwarming it brought a big smile to my face. :)

heavy hedonist,
Saw that movie, too. Was nervous, wondering how they would spin angels. I agree with your assessment of the movie. :)

It's a beautiful concept to believe that things happen for a reason. With all the challenges in today's world, when something out of the ordinary happens, it is uplifting.

Thanks for a lovely post, Deena!
